  • What is the difference between palm oil extraction and palm kernel extraction?
  • The extraction procedure of oil from the palm kernel is distinct from the palm oil extraction. The palm kernel is the true seed of the palm fruit, hence it shares similar properties and processing or milling equipment with oil seeds such as shea nuts, groundnuts, rapeseed, cottonseed, or coconut copra.
  • How is palm oil extracted?
  • The oil content of the palm kernel is about 50%, so the most economical way to extract this oil is by prepressing followed by solvent extraction, just as rapeseed and sunflower seeds are processed.
  • How is palm kernel oil made?
  • The sorted fibre is covered and allowed to heat, using its own internal exothermic reactions, for about two or three days. The fibre is then pressed in spindle presses to recover a second grade (technical) oil that is used normally in soap-making. The nuts are usually dried and sold to other operators who process them into palm kernel oil.
  • What is Olam palm Gabon?
  • Olam Palm Gabon – a joint venture with the government of Gabon – is part of our plan to support the development of the agricultural economy – to broad-base the Gabon economy, reduce food imports, create employment opportunities and tackle poverty in the country. In 2025, OPG delivered a net volume of over 100,000 tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO).
