  • What is the ratio of palm olein and palm kernel oil?
  • Some refineries blend palm kernel oil and palm oil at ratios of 8:2 to 6:4 for food frying. Indeed, locally produced frying oils are mainly blends of palm kernel oil and palm oil. Palm olein found in the Nigerian market is smuggled products from Ghana, Cameroon, and Republic of Benin.
  • Are palm kernel oil and palm olein eutectic?
  • Studies by Gold (2006) showed that mixtures of palm kernel oil and palm olein produced eutectic compositions (mixtures with lower melting point than the individual parent). These mixtures were also found to have lower solid fat content at the same temperature than the pure components.
  • How is palm oil extracted from a screw press?
  • Palm oil released from the screw press is transferred to the clarifier where it is steam washed and transferred into storage. The presscake is transferred through the cake breaker to the cyclone where the nuts are separated from the fiber. The nuts are further processed into kernels and the fiber used to fire the boiler.
